BHP Billiton adopted multiple Konecranes solutions, including safety inspection services, cranes and hoists, for the Olympic Dam mine. The existing cranes were 25 years old and were reportedly breaking down frequently. Konecranes announced supplying the miner with fi ve new cranes, ranging from 1-metric-ton (mt) to 3.5-mt lifting capacity, and which will feature CLX chain hoists and CXT wire rope hoists. BHP leadership reported Konecranes provided several good options with quick turnaround times, Konecranes reported. “The new cranes have a range of advanced features to increase productivity, efficiency and safety, which will help us further reduce downtime and keep operations running smoothly,” said Scott Montgomerie, supervisor, fl oats maintenance execution, Olympic Dam, BHP Billiton.
