TOMRA XRT Technology Recovers Record Breaking Diamond

Lucara Diamond Corp. recovered a 2,492-carat rough diamond in August, using TOMRA Mining's X-Ray Transmission (XRT) technology at the Karowe Mine in Botswana. The stone, one of the largest ever discovered, was recovered at the mine’s Mega Diamond Recovery Plant, which has utilized TOMRA’s XRT sorters since 2017. This latest find, followed by another 1,094-carat diamond just weeks later, highlights the impact of integrating XRT technology early in the recovery process to secure valuable diamonds while minimizing damage.

TOMRA's XRT technology has contributed to multiple significant recoveries at Karowe, including 13 of the 15 largest diamonds found at the mine since 2014. This recent find is the largest diamond ever recovered directly from run-of-mine ore, further demonstrating the precision and efficiency of TOMRA's equipment in optimizing diamond recovery and reducing operational costs.
