Atlas Copco announced it will focus on zero-emission and battery-driven machinery. The company has immediate plans to expand its current portfolio of electric mining equipment, including loaders, drill rigs and mine trucks. The company reported it will continue to support all customers who rely on diesel- driven equipment.
Leadership said its goal is zero-emission mining. “Our customers’ future is electric,” Andreas Nordbrandt, president, underground rock excavation division, said. “We must consider the mining industry’s carbon footprint and assume our responsibility as an industry leader.”
Erik Svedlund, global marketing manager, electrification, said battery-powered machines currently perform at least as well as the diesel competition. “This is only the beginning,” he said. “Productivity and profitability will only improve from here.”
