Sandvik is introducing a new operator training simulator, Digital Trainer – TH, an efficient and flexible tool for Sandvik truck operator training. Following on from the introduction of a similar solution for their Toro™ LH621i and Toro™ LH517i loaders in 2020, the Digital Trainer – TH is initially for the Toro™ TH663i and Toro™ TH551i trucks.
Training sessions are individually tailored to the needs each operator, helping them avoid unnecessary equipment damage and teaching them how to utilize equipment in the most efficient way, and as a truck itself is not needed as a training tool, the simulator also increases actual equipment utilization and availability for productive operation. Digital Trainer – TH also enables practice before an actual Sandvik truck arrives at a site.
To ensure ergonomics even during training hours, Digital Trainer – TH features the same controls and elements as the ones used in the truck cabin. The Digital Trainer – TH operator compartment is mounted on a motion base platform supported by two electrical actuators, resulting in an authentic feel of driving a truck. The control system user interface with all its functionalities is the same as in the Toro™ TH551i and Toro™ TH663i trucks. To meet local needs, the Sandvik Intelligent Control System is available in 17 different languages.
“The Digital Trainer –TH offers a sustainable training solution, as training can be carried out remotely which reduces need for travelling and thereby decreases carbon footprint,” said Shiv Kumar, Load and Haul Training Manager at Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions. “Further, training can be done more safely in an office environment, with a trainer easily available right next to the trainee. We are pleased to add this simulator to Sandvik’s offering, and trust that it will be an effective and efficient tool for truck operators.”
