ABB has secured a contract to modernize the water operations at Al Ezz Dekheila Steel Co. (EZDK) in Alexandria, Egypt, using its ABB Ability™ System 800xA® distributed control system. The technology will be deployed across three central water treatment plants and auxiliary systems at the site, which is one of the largest integrated steelmaking facilities in the region. The system is designed to enhance operational control, improve monitoring efficiency, and support both existing and new infrastructure.
ABB says that the solution will unify water-related processes into centralized control hubs, enabling faster decision-making and increased operational responsiveness. The project includes the supply, engineering, commissioning, and startup of the system, and aims to improve overall productivity, resource use, and system reliability. The upgrade aligns with EZDK’s broader efforts to strengthen process performance and reduce environmental impact within its natural gas-based steelmaking operations.
“Through our high-quality engineering and expertise, we are able to deliver the latest in automation and electrification for EZDK’s steelmaking facility, enabling a reliable and flexible operational environment. Covering various applications, System 800xA will help to facilitate the continuation of world class operations at the Ezz Steel plant.” said Shady Rafaat, Metals and Steel Segment Account Manager at ABB North Africa.
