Almar Water Solutions has announced the completion of 100% of the pipeline stringing for the SIAM II expansion of the Centinela Water System in Chile, with nearly 30% already welded. The project, which supports mining operations in the Atacama Desert, is currently ahead of schedule and has reached over 40% overall completion. The infrastructure forms part of a dual seawater transport system designed to reduce reliance on freshwater resources in one of the driest regions on Earth.
The Centinela Water System, developed under a BOOT (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer) model, is being implemented to support Antofagasta Minerals’ copper operations. Once operational, it will move more than 167,000 cubic metres of seawater daily from the Michilla Port to mining sites 144 kilometres inland and over 2,000 metres above sea level. Almar Water Solutions describes the project as an example of long-term industrial water management tailored to meet high-demand and extreme conditions.
“It is a tremendous honour for our team to welcome Fady Jameel to this milestone project for the first time. The Centinela Water System is not only a demonstration of our technical and operational capabilities, but also a testament to our close collaboration with Antofagasta Minerals. We deeply appreciate their continued trust and partnership.” said Santiago Martínez, Chief Operating Officer, Asset Management at Almar Water Solutions.
