Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has unveiled hybrid versions of its newly launched generation of excavators, integrating the company’s hydraulic hybrid technology. The EC400 and EC500 models are the first of the new line to feature this hybrid option, with more models expected in the future. This innovation promises a 17% improvement in fuel efficiency and a 15% reduction in both CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.
Volvo’s hydraulic hybrid system captures energy from the down motion of the excavator’s boom, storing it to assist the engine system. This approach is designed to lower costs, reduce environmental impact, and increase operational efficiency. The updated electro-hydraulic system also simplifies maintenance with fewer hoses and couplings, adding to the machines' durability.
“The expansion of our Hybrid range into our new generation excavators represents the merging of our most advanced hybrid technology with a new and modern design that takes customers into the future.” said Otmar Kirsch, Product Manager Excavator.
