Bredel Hose Pumps Adopts Waterborne Paints to Cut VOC Emissions

Bredel hose pumps has reduced its environmental impact by transitioning from solvent-based paints to waterborne paints at its Delden, Netherlands manufacturing site. This change, implemented in November 2024, has resulted in a 90% reduction in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emissions, aligning with WMFTS’ commitment to sustainability under the Spirax Group’s One Planet strategy. Additional benefits include an 8,000 m³ reduction in natural gas use per year and enhanced efficiency through operational improvements in the painting process.

The shift to waterborne paints also eliminates the need for certain safety measures, such as sprinkler systems, due to the implementation of a fully enclosed paint shop. Bredel states that the transition maintains compliance with ISO12944 standards for high durability and quality, ensuring that its hose pumps continue to perform reliably in demanding environments while offering improved corrosion resistance.

"We are proud of our transition to using waterborne paints, lowering the environmental footprint of our solutions without compromising quality or performance. This achievement highlights our commitment to our One Planet sustainability strategy and to reducing our environmental impact, which benefits our communities, customers and the planet." said Camilo Contreras, Sustainability Specialist at Bredel.
