Flottweg Supplies Six Decanters to Mexico Mine

A major mining operation in Mexico has installed six Flottweg decanter centrifuges to improve process water recovery and reduce operational costs. The company, a leading global producer of fluorspar and hydrofluoric acid, sought to replace its underperforming thickening and settling systems, which struggled with fine particle removal and rising water procurement costs. The Z92 decanter model was selected for its ability to handle large throughputs and its adjustability under varying process conditions.

Following a successful pilot program, the centrifuges were incrementally deployed and are now treating the full tailings stream across the site. The technology enables faster and more efficient separation of fine particles, allowing more water to be recovered for reuse in mineral processing. According to the company, the system has significantly reduced the need for external water sourcing and improved control over tailings management.

“The advantage of taking Flottweg’s offer to lease their equipment to us so we could use it and provide a technical service to show not only how easy it is to use the equipment, but also the rippling effect it would have in our system, was the key to success,” said a company representative.
