Regal Rexnord Advances Conveyor Safety in Mining

Regal Rexnord, through its Svendborg Brakes brand, has introduced advanced soft braking systems designed to enhance safety and efficiency in mining conveyor operations. The SOBO® iQ controller offers precise control over start-up, braking, and deceleration, reducing torque peaks and safeguarding both equipment and personnel. These systems integrate real-time monitoring and IIoT-enabled condition tracking to support predictive maintenance and operational reliability, especially in demanding mining environments such as long or inclined conveyors.

The technology has already been applied in major mining projects, including installations in large-scale copper operations in Chile. These systems ensure controlled stopping, manage emergency scenarios, and improve uptime while helping operators meet safety and sustainability goals.
