Vögele’s SUPER 1800-5 X paver was deployed for night-time rehabilitation of the carriage road leading to Neuschwanstein Castle, one of Germany’s most visited landmarks. With steep inclines, tight curves, and restricted access, the project required precise machinery capable of operating safely in the dark. Over three nights, roughly 7,000 m² of surface was milled and 800 t of asphalt were laid using the high-traction, 129 kW paver equipped with the Dash 5 technologies, including SmartWheel steering and the integrated Light Package Plus for targeted illumination.
The Light Package Plus enabled effective lighting of the operator’s platform, hopper, screed, and work areas without additional assembly, while the Paver Access Control (PAC) function allowed start-up and shutdown from the ground. Together with the AB 600 extending screed and heated compaction systems, the paver ensured a homogeneous, quiet surface suitable for horse-drawn carriages and emergency vehicles.
"With the Light Package Plus, we were able to illuminate all relevant paver and work areas in a targeted manner, thereby ensuring maximum safety even in the dark," said Stefan Keller, Senior Site Manager at Geiger Hoch- und Tiefbau GmbH & Co. KG.
