Redpath and Herrenknecht have jointly advanced the development of the Hard Rock Shaft Boring System (SBC), a mechanised solution designed to address the challenges of deep hard-rock shaft construction. Recent workshops at Redpath’s North Bay, Canada offices brought together global leaders in shaft sinking to evaluate the system’s design and assess risks associated with complex excavation environments. The collaboration has yielded improved forecasting capabilities for sinking rates across different rock types and shaft sizes, supported by detailed schedules and cost estimates.
Building on a history of partnership including successful deployment of the Shaft Boring Roadheader (SBR), the SBC represents the next step in mechanised shaft sinking technology. Combining Herrenknecht’s excavation expertise with Redpath’s extensive global experience in hard-rock shaft construction, the system aims to enhance safety, productivity, and predictability in mining operations.
