Research by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health indicates that Sleipner E190 dollies can lower workers’ exposure to whole-body vibration compared to operating excavators on their own tracks. Tests conducted at a Finnish mine in May 2023 found that vibration levels when using Sleipner dollies were significantly below the internationally recognized action and limit values for worker safety.
The measurements, carried out on a gravel road under consistent conditions, involved a Komatsu PC 2000 excavator moved on both tracks and dollies, the latter towed by a Komatsu 830 E haul truck. Results showed that while vibration levels on tracks approached thresholds requiring preventive measures after three hours of use, vibration levels with dollies remained well below these limits during comparable exposure times.
According to Vili Tuominen, Product Engineer at Sleipner Finland, the study’s findings underscored the potential benefits of using dollies to mitigate whole-body vibration risks in mining operations.
