Normet Xrock has introduced the Xrock Autobreaker, the first fully autonomous rock-breaking system designed to enhance mining productivity and safety. This technology addresses one of the highest-risk tasks in mining by removing personnel from the grizzly area, a critical zone for ore flow management. Using real-time camera vision and sensor fusion, the system autonomously identifies and breaks oversized rocks, enabling operators to supervise multiple units remotely from a protected control room.
The Autobreaker integrates with existing Xrock breaker boom installations and can optionally be combined with the Xquick quick coupler for automatic tool changes, increasing operational flexibility. By reducing the need for manual intervention in hazardous environments, the system aims to minimise downtime and improve both safety and efficiency in mining operations.
“Autobreaker does not remove people from mining, it removes them from danger. By enabling rock breaking to be supervised safely from an office environment, we not only multiply the output of every operator, but also open opportunities to a wider group of people who may not previously have been able to access operator or operational roles in the underground mining industry.” said Vesa Marttila, Global Sales Director and Breaker Booms Product Line Director at Normet Xrock.
