Normet has introduced two new battery-electric vehicle platforms for underground mining – the XS-series and the L-series – expanding its SmartDrive® offering from both ends of the size spectrum. The new additions aim to meet a broader range of underground logistics and transportation needs, from compact machines for confined spaces to high-capacity equipment for heavy-duty applications.
The XS-series includes a 3.5-ton payload platform designed for light transport in small-profile tunnels, while the L-series is built for 15-ton payloads and steep ramp haulage. Both platforms are battery-electric and join the existing M-series, which Normet says is already in operation on six continents. In addition to new vehicles, the company has also launched the SmartDrive Xtreme charging container, developed to increase charging reliability and safety in challenging underground environments.
Normet adds that these developments reflect its ongoing focus on battery-electric solutions aimed at reducing underground emissions, improving energy efficiency, and supporting mining operations with a complete electrification ecosystem.
