STEINERT Sorting Technology Enhances Bauxite Beneficiation

STEINERT’s sensor-based sorting (SBS) technology has been implemented at Terra Goyana Mining (TGM) to enhance bauxite beneficiation at the Barro Alto mine in Brazil. The system enables dry separation by identifying ore composition in real time, allowing for the removal of impurities such as calcium oxide and iron oxide. By integrating X-ray transmission and 3D laser technology, the solution aims to improve product quality while eliminating the need for water-intensive processing.

Following initial trials at STEINERT’s testing center, TGM adopted the sorting technology at an industrial scale. The system has optimized ore classification, reduced contaminants, and contributed to a more efficient beneficiation process. STEINERT continues to support the operation with remote assistance and on-site technical guidance.

"TGM's strategy for Ore Sorter products reinforces the zero-waste concept, enabling the production of high-value bauxite and the commercialization of reject material for various industries," said Alexandre Rosa, TGM's PCP Supervisor.
