Caterpillar released the Cat MD6200 Rotary Blasthole Drill, which is a production rig that does pre-split drilling. The company described the rig as its most transportable rotary drill yet. The rig is designed for single- or multipass rotary or DTH drilling and can drill 127-mm to 200-mm-diameter holes. It can drill at a negative angle up to 15° to match the highwall slope. For traditional production drilling, the mast tilts from vertical to 30°. The cab operator can adjust the mast angle in increments of 5° with a touch screen. The MD6200 can be transported over the road with the mast on. It offers best-inclass maneuverability, Caterpillar reported. A customizable Cat C18 engine powers the drill. It is available in U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 Final configuration and in U.S. EPA Tier 2 equivalent configuration. The cab offers ergonomic controls, the company reported. Optional upgrades include a heated, ventilated seat with
heavy-duty suspension and dual-pane glass. Multifunction joystick controls and touch screens are intuitive to use, Caterpillar reported, and three cameras offer improved operator situational awareness capabilities.
