RCT Digital System Adopted at NSW Underground Mine

A mine in New South Wales has upgraded its fleet of Caterpillar 2900 loaders by transitioning from analogue to RCT’s AutoNav Lite digital system. The change is part of what the mine operator describes as a broader move toward operational modernisation, with the aim of improving machine performance, diagnostics, and predictive maintenance. RCT – Powered by Epiroc – says the implementation enables operators to control the LHDs remotely from customised Telecabins mounted on Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles, removing the need to return to a central control room for machine monitoring.

This digital setup allows for real-time access to equipment data and reduces operator exposure to hazardous areas, supporting both efficiency and safety on site. The Telecabins were modified to include updated digital hardware, tailored network infrastructure, and enhanced connectivity to maintain communications throughout the mine. The company says the site intends to further develop its systems over time, with a view to incorporating new hardware and technology as it becomes available.
