The City of Hot Springs, Arkansas, has achieved a significant reduction in non-revenue water loss by adopting digital technology from Xylem. The city’s upgrades included advanced metering infrastructure with Sensus iPERL® meters and the FlexNet® communication network, which improved monitoring and enabled real-time leak detection. These systems helped identify and address a major water loss of four million gallons caused by a broken air release valve.
Additional improvements were made using Xylem Vue, an analytics platform that creates virtual district metering areas to identify high water loss zones. By dividing the system into smaller sections, the city was able to detect and address issues more effectively, including a fire hydrant that was leaking 2,000 gallons per hour.
“With Xylem Vue, we're not just reacting to leaks. We're proactively detecting them before they become major issues. This ability to pinpoint problem areas in real time allows for substantial cost and time savings. said Monty Ledbetter, director of utilities at the City of Hot Springs.
