Vertex Minerals is using TOMRA Mining’s LASER ore sorting technology at its Hill End gold project in New South Wales, aiming to improve ore processing efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The technology, which enables high-precision separation of ore from waste, is being used to upgrade material ahead of gravity-based processing, which includes crushing, ball milling, and concentration.
The integration follows a test program using material from the Reward Gold Mine, where TOMRA’s sorter was shown to significantly improve feed grade while reducing overall mass. According to the company, the results support a more efficient operation with lower energy use and fewer tailings, contributing to Vertex’s aim of producing “green gold.”
“The TOMRA ore sorter has been a game-changer for this site. We have reduced power, water and time we’ve got to run the plant because it’s so efficient in sorting out the waste from the gold ore.” said Roger Jackson, Executive Chairperson at Vertex Minerals.
