Volvo CE Invests in Global Crawler Excavator Capacity

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) says it will invest approximately 2,500 MSEK to expand crawler excavator production at three existing facilities. The Changwon plant in South Korea will receive the largest share of funds, while an assembly line will be added to Shippensburg, USA, and production for the European market will be in Sweden, with final decisions on scope and timing expected in 2025. Bringing output closer to major regions is intended to shorten lead times, improve resilience and reduce emissions linked to long distance logistics.

The company states that upgrading the Changwon site will secure global volumes and preserve core competences in manufacturing, product development and purchasing. Volvo CE also notes that localized production should help manage economic and regulatory changes while supporting collaboration with regional suppliers and customers.

“We understand the need to respond to growing demand and are excited to expand our facilities to serve customers better. This investment underscores our commitment to quality, innovation and competence, allowing us to deliver even greater value.” said Melker Jernberg, Head of Volvo CE.
