Caterpillar Launches Autonomous Cat® 777 Truck at Luck Stone Quarry

Caterpillar Inc. has announced the successful demonstration of its fully autonomous Cat® 777 off-highway truck at Luck Stone’s Bull Run plant in Chantilly, Virginia. This latest deployment of Cat® MineStar™ Command for hauling represents Caterpillar's first use of autonomous technology in the quarry and aggregates industry. By expanding its autonomous fleet to include the 100-ton-class Cat® 777, Caterpillar aims to bring autonomous hauling solutions to the aggregates sector, supporting advancements in safety and productivity.

This milestone follows Caterpillar’s agreement with Luck Stone in December 2022 to accelerate development of autonomous solutions for quarry applications. Caterpillar has worked closely with Luck Stone to implement and test this technology, with the goal of creating a scalable, cost-effective autonomous system that meets the demands of the aggregates industry. With the deployment at Bull Run, Caterpillar’s autonomous fleet has grown further, adding to the company’s extensive track record in autonomous operations.
