MacLean Establishes Surface Mining Vehicle Division

MacLean Engineering has announced the creation of a Surface Mining Vehicle Division, expanding its focus beyond underground equipment. The company says that this move builds on its experience in battery electric vehicle (EV) design and support, with a decade of field deployment across North America, Africa, and Australia. The first model introduced under this division is the GR8 EV Surface Grader, which is part of a broader plan to develop additional EV solutions for surface mining.

The company has confirmed that Fortescue is the first customer for the GR8, as part of Fortescue’s Real Zero 2030 decarbonization strategy. MacLean intends to develop further ancillary EVs to support the sector’s decarbonization goals.

“With a decade of EV experience in underground mining, more than 100 units sold, and over 500,000 operating hours, we are well positioned to bring our expertise to surface mining. We are here now to accelerate fleet decarbonization efforts and work with mining companies to support their operational and sustainability objectives.” said David Jacques, Vice President of Surface Mining Vehicles at MacLean.
