ABB Strengthens Vision for Electric Mines

ABB has released an updated version of its white paper on building an all-electric mine, offering fresh analysis based on four years of project experience under its eMine™ framework. The publication revisits electrification trends across the sector, pointing to growing commitments to reduce emissions and modernise fleets with solutions such as electric haulage, trolley assist and enhanced charging systems.

In addition to outlining emerging technologies, the document maps out how operators can implement electrification in manageable phases. ABB says that miners show continued appetite for proven tools and collaborative pilots, and draws attention to field trials of the eMine™ Robot Automated Connection Device at Boliden’s Aitik operation in northern Sweden.

“Full mine electrification won’t happen overnight, but four years after the launch of ABB eMine™, we’re glad to see progress being made… Now it’s time to scale up,” said Björn Jonsson, Business Line Manager for Mining and Materials, ABB Process Industries.
