RCT has automated two newly acquired CAT 2900XE diesel-electric underground loaders at Stawell Gold Mine in Victoria, enabling them to operate alongside the site’s existing Epiroc ST18S loaders. The AutoNav multi-machine automation solution allows all machines to be run from existing RCT control centres, eliminating the need to relocate operator stations and minimising downtime.
According to RCT, the project is notable for integrating equipment from different OEMs into a single automation platform, something uncommon in the mining industry. It also marks the first time the Brisbane branch has installed AutoNav on this model of hybrid CAT loader, a task requiring both on-site work and coordination with the CAT OEM facility.
“We are constantly hearing from our clients that they have been told these hybrid machines can’t be automated, so it’s a real buzz for us being able to do it. And do it well,” said Owen Perrott, RCT Brisbane Branch Manager.
