Liebherr Mining has completed the delivery and commissioning of a full trolley assist system at the Collahuasi copper mine in northern Chile. The package includes four retrofitted T 284 ultra-class trucks and a one-kilometre trolley line, marking the first fully operational trolley installation in the country. All components—ranging from the power infrastructure and overhead lines to onboard truck hardware—were supplied by Liebherr, with local implementation managed by Liebherr Chile.
The project was engineered to withstand the demanding conditions of the high-altitude site, which sits 4,500 metres above sea level and is exposed to high winds and seismic activity. Drawing on previous trolley truck deployments in Panama, Zambia and Austria, Liebherr coordinated global sourcing and technical expertise to deliver a turnkey solution tailored to Collahuasi’s operational needs.
“This project is a clear example of what’s possible through strategic partnership. We look forward to seeing the long-term results and hopefully expanding Liebherr’s trolley footprint in the future.” said Oliver Weiss, executive vice president of R&D, engineering and production at Liebherr-Mining Equipment SAS.
