Komatsu has installed a P&H 2100BL electric rope shovel as a permanent monument at its Elko, Nevada, facility, marking a celebration of the company’s long-standing heritage in mining innovation. The massive machine, first manufactured in 1979, was relocated from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to stand prominently at the site, which serves as a regional hub for both mining and construction support. Visible from Interstate 80, the landmark highlights Komatsu’s decades of involvement in advancing heavy equipment technology and its ongoing commitment to customers in the region.
The Elko service center represents a major investment by Komatsu, totaling $57 million since 2019, to expand maintenance, parts, and warehouse capabilities. The site supports a wide range of machinery, from haul trucks to hydraulic and electric shovels, serving both industries.
“The P&H 2100BL electric shovel is a remarkable piece of engineering. Its journey from Milwaukee to Elko marks a significant moment in our company's history,” said Tom Suess, Komatsu’s Vice President and General Manager for U.S. Mining Distribution.
