Komatsu has partnered with Silicon Valley autonomy specialist Pronto to introduce a new haulage solution for the North American quarry sector. The system, called Komatsu Smart Quarry Autonomous, integrates Pronto’s autonomous driving technologies with Komatsu’s quarry-sized trucks and ties into the company’s existing Smart Quarry platform. The aim is to bring autonomous haulage — long used in large-scale mining — to quarries of all sizes.
The solution is OEM-agnostic, allowing operators to retrofit existing Komatsu trucks or order new vehicles with the technology pre-installed. It is designed for round-the-clock operation with minimal human intervention, and to provide data-driven insights via the Smart Quarry platform. Komatsu adds that the system also supports safety goals by removing drivers from potentially hazardous areas.
“This collaboration with Pronto accelerates our vision of smart, automated quarry operations. We have decades of experience with autonomous haulage in large-scale mining. Now we’re bringing that expertise to quarries of all sizes.” said Jason Anetsberger, Komatsu’s Senior Director for Customer Solutions.
