Komatsu has signed a multimillion-dollar agreement with Ouster to supply 3D digital lidar sensors for its autonomous mining equipment. The company says the deal will support the replacement of legacy 2D lidar with 3D systems across its portfolio, enhancing perception, navigation and collision avoidance.
The integration of Ouster’s REV7 long and short-range sensors will support future product capabilities and help improve performance in demanding environments. The agreement also includes early access to Ouster’s upcoming technologies for testing and development.
“Ouster’s products developed through this partnership can withstand the shock, vibration and temperature constraints while delivering the enhanced range and spatial awareness necessary to operate in harsh mining environments,” said Matt Reiland, Technical Director, Automation Innovation at Komatsu.
