Komatsu has announced a collaboration with Silicon Valley-based Applied Intuition to co-develop a software-defined vehicle and autonomy platform for its next generation of mining equipment. The project is intended to introduce real-time adaptability and advanced digital capabilities aimed at supporting productivity, precision and operational efficiency in increasingly complex mining environments.
The platform is designed to integrate features such as continuous software updates, flexible levels of autonomy and embedded machine learning, enabling equipment to adapt to site-specific conditions and evolving customer needs. Komatsu positions the initiative as a significant step in its strategy to expand software-driven capabilities across global mining fleets, addressing challenges such as labor shortages, difficult terrain and growing demand for minerals.
“Komatsu is committed to creating value together with our customers, and this collaboration represents a step change in how we bring innovative, high-performance technology to their operations,” said Peter Salditt, President, Mining Business Division, Komatsu and CEO, Komatsu Mining Technologies.
