Komatsu has announced the commissioning of its first diesel trolley truck built on the company’s new Power Agnostic platform. The 930E model, which is designed to accommodate future energy transitions, has begun a year-long field trial at Boliden’s Aitik copper mine in Sweden—one of the largest open-pit operations in Europe. The modular platform enables mining operators to initially use diesel while preparing for a potential switch to lower-emission technologies, including battery-electric and hydrogen power.
The truck was first introduced at MINExpo 2024 and has since been deployed to gather real-world data under operating conditions. Komatsu says that the integrated diesel trolley assist feature is intended to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, while laying the groundwork for electrified mining. According to the company, this deployment represents a step toward supporting its mining customers’ decarbonization objectives through flexible equipment design.
Boliden, a founding member of Komatsu’s Greenhouse Gas Alliance, is participating in the trial to assess the truck's role in supporting its climate strategy. The trial is expected to yield insights that will inform future development of Komatsu’s haulage systems.
