Epiroc has introduced the Diamec Automated Rod Magazine (ARM), designed to reduce manual handling during exploration core drilling. The system enables fully automated tripping of drill strings to preset positions and is compatible with the Diamec Smart 6M with RHS, the Diamec Smart 6 with RHS, and the Diamec Smart 8 with RHS. The magazine is part of Epiroc’s broader efforts to limit operator exposure to live work.
The Diamec ARM moves the operator station further from the machine and includes features such as automatic pin thread greasing, camera-assisted rod threading, and joystick controls for manual operation if needed. A full magazine can hold 84 N-rods, which the company says allows up to 252 meters of drilling without intervention. Additional rod cassettes can be used for deeper holes.
“We have a very clear goal for the future. We want to remove operators from the danger zone and make our products as automated as possible. An important step on this journey was to develop our range of Diamec Smart rigs. Now our Diamec ARM is ready to provide the next level of automation. It will make every day work life safer and easier for the operator,” said Indrawan Sukarya, Global Product Manager at Epiroc.
