Epiroc has received a large order from Hudbay Minerals Inc. for a fleet of battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) to be used at the Lalor underground mine in Snow Lake, Manitoba. The order includes BEV versions of the Boomer M20 SG face drilling rig, Scooptram ST18 SG and Scooptram ST14 SG loaders, and Minetruck MT42 SG hauler. Epiroc says that the equipment will support productivity while lowering emissions and improving working conditions.
Hudbay Minerals has been operating an Epiroc battery-powered Scooptram loader in recent years and says the success of that trial influenced its decision to expand its BEV fleet.
“We are happy to support Hudbay Minerals as it takes its next step on its electrification journey. There are clear benefits to our customers that invest in electrical equipment. It improves the health of the employees, saves ventilation costs, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, our battery-powered equipment also outperforms the productivity of corresponding diesel equipment.” said Helena Hedblom, Epiroc’s President and CEO.
