Multotec Adds Durable Chute Linings in Brazil

Faced with repeated downtime due to excessive abrasion on rubber-lined chutes, a Brazilian lithium producer turned to Multotec Brazil for a more robust wear-lining solution. Drawing on its global network, Multotec developed and installed custom-engineered ceramic-lined chutes, significantly extending component lifespan in the client’s Dense Media Separation circuit.

The project, supported by specialists from Multotec South Africa, involved lining 23 chutes with high-grade alumina ceramic tiles, enhancing wear life from just 2–3 months to up to 18 months. The improved durability has contributed to reduced maintenance costs, increased uptime, and more consistent plant performance. Ongoing technical support and local training ensure sustained reliability of the new linings.

The company reports that discussions are underway to expand the collaboration through a dedicated maintenance contract and possibly a local service facility in Minas Gerais. Multotec also intends to support future chute redesign efforts, aiming to further optimise wear performance through smarter engineering and local capability development.
