AfriSam’s Umlaas Road Quarry in KwaZulu-Natal has adopted Multotec’s rubber screening panels to improve the accuracy of its tertiary screening process. The quarry had previously faced issues with woven wire mesh media, where pegging, blinding and frequent replacements led to downtime, higher maintenance costs and challenges in meeting strict product size specifications. By moving to a modular rubber panel system, the operation has aimed to achieve more consistent sizing and reduce inefficiencies.
The panels are designed to absorb impact and limit the build-up of fines while offering extended wear life. Their modular format means that only damaged panels require replacement, reducing maintenance time and safety risks. Additional design features, such as injection moulded weir bars, help distribute material more evenly across the screen deck, contributing to smoother flow and greater efficiency in processing aggregates for the construction and road-building markets.
"Quarries and quarry product streams are known to be dusty with a lot of fines.By changing over to the correct rubber composition for the specific application, the Umlaas Road Quarry was able to increase production, reduce pegging, blinding, and fines build-up significantly. The transition to rubber panels not only optimises the screening process but also improves workplace safety and operational uptime." said Pieter Uys, Business Development Manager at Multotec Manufacturing.
