Metso has been awarded a contract by Sotta Mining Corporation Ltd., a subsidiary of Perseus Mining Limited, to supply comminution equipment for the Nyanzaga gold project in northwest Tanzania. The order includes a Superior™ MKIII 4265 primary gyratory crusher and two Premier™ grinding mills, with a total installed power of 21MW. Metso states the value of the order exceeds EUR 20 million and it was recorded in the Minerals segment’s first-quarter 2025 orders received.
The company says the Premier™ SAG and ball mills feature low-speed synchronous motor drives that eliminate the need for conventional gearboxes, offering improved reliability and energy efficiency. According to Metso, the mills also include its Polymer Hydrostatic Shoe Bearing systems, which are designed to reduce maintenance needs and enhance operational reliability.
“The PremierTM SAG mill and ball mill to be delivered to the Nyanzaga project feature low-speed synchronous motor drives without conventional gearboxes. This makes the mills very reliable and very efficient – a 2% saving in energy consumption when compared to traditional gearbox-driven mills. Both mills are equipped with Metso’s fail-safe Polymer Hydrostatic Shoe Bearing systems, significantly increasing reliability and reducing maintenance costs,” said Oskar Gustavson, Technology Director, Grinding at Metso.
