Sandvik’s AutoMine® Control Room technology has been implemented at Asia Cement Co., Ltd., marking the first use of automated drilling at a surface mining operation in South Korea. The system, integrated with a Pantera™ DP1100i surface drill rig, is designed to support productivity improvements, enhance safety, and streamline operations by enabling remote control and continuous drilling during shift changes and breaks.
Key features of the AutoMine® system include remote fleet management capabilities, high-definition camera views, and audio feedback for precise drilling performance. Safety measures include an Access Control System to secure the Autonomous Operating Zone (AOZ), while reliable connectivity is maintained using Public LTE with dynamic IP and VPN tunneling to ensure uninterrupted operation.
“This partnership highlights the role of automation in improving surface mining processes,” said Jan-Douwe Wansink, Business Line Manager Automation for Sales Area South East Asia at Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions. “We will be monitoring the performance of the automated Pantera™ DP1100i rig and look forward to observing the results it delivers for Asia Cement’s operations.”
