Sandvik Mining has launched its new Fast Cable Anchor at Afrirock 2025, extending its portfolio of ground support solutions for underground hard rock mining. Designed to improve installation speed and efficiency, the system allows for mechanical or manual installation using bulk cables without the need for special tools. According to the company, every step in the bolting process can be carried out in sequence, eliminating the typical wait times associated with grout curing.
The new anchor is also designed to enhance installation stability and safety. Sandvik says that the anchor secures firmly within the borehole and displaces grout into small voids, contributing to a more robust ground support structure. This could help reduce re-entry delays, potentially improving productivity in development headings.
“With typical curing times of at least 12 hours and an average waiting time of 24 hours before tensioning, our innovative new design can reduce re-entry time by as much as a full day. We are happy to present this new Fast Cable Anchor for the first time at Afrirock 2025, and to show our visitors how our latest innovation supports rapid development in underground mining.” said Jamie Wang, Research & Development Engineer – Bolting at Sandvik Mining.
