Sandvik Mining has expanded its collaboration with Glencore International AG to include Newtrax proximity detection and collision avoidance technology. The addition broadens an existing partnership and supports Glencore’s stated aim of enhancing safety across its global operations. The Newtrax system is designed to integrate with a wide range of underground mining equipment, regardless of manufacturer, making it adaptable for Glencore’s mixed fleet.
Currently being deployed at Glencore’s Kamoto Copper Company in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and its Raglan nickel mine in Canada, the technology is intended to complement Sandvik's equipment and digital tools already in use. Newtrax also brings the Mining Data Platform into the scope of delivery, offering real-time insight into operational conditions while prioritising incident prevention.
“Glencore is committed to incorporating technologies that can help create a workplace free from fatalities and injuries and improve operational efficiency. The integration of Newtrax systems reflects our focus on safety and innovation at all levels of our global operations.” said Mark Davis, CEO Copper Africa at Glencore.
